Interview with Attorney

Name: Philip Robinson

Title: Criminal Defense/Injury Attorney

Major: Political Science

This interview went over Mr.Robinson’s path to perfecting his craft as a successful lawyer.

Now for the interview:

  • Let’s start by you telling me your job title and a brief summary of what a typical day looks like for you?

I am a managing partner of Robinson Law Firm. We primarily specialize in personal injury and criminal defense. So, on one hand, I’m an injury attorney. On the other hand, I’m a criminal defense attorney. On the civil side, I usually deal with clients that been hurt in accidents and our goal is to make that person whole again. The law can’t fix something from happening, but you can get the financial equivalent to fixing what was broken. On the criminal side, I serve part-time as a public defender and in other instances, I’m a private attorney. My goal is to secure my client’s freedom or innocence or mitigate some of the damages.

  • Did you already have an idea of what you wanted to do before you got to college?

Yes, since a young kid I’ve always wanted to be a lawyer. I majored in political science in college then took the LSAT test in order to get into law school.

  • Do you feel like majoring in political science actually helped you in your career?

To be honest, if I could do it all over again I would’ve probably majored in engineering because I would’ve had more opportunities outside of law. Political science is good, but it limits you to stay in law areas.

  • What led you to want to choose this career?

I wanted to own my own time, help people, no cap salary on the amount of money that I’m able to make, and wanted to be a part of a well-respected profession. Being able to own your own practice allows you to work for yourself since it’s your own business.

  • Is there anything you want to change about your career path or how you got to where you are?

Honestly no, because I always had a goal in mind and I stuck to it even when the odds were against me. Through hard work and persistence, I was able to complete my goal.
